Design-Build Services for Coolidge Senior High School Documentation

Thursday, December 15, 2016

The District of Columbia Department of General Services ("DGS" or "Department") is issuing this Request for Proposals ("RFP") to engage a contractor to design and construct the modernization and renovation of Coolidge Senior High School ("Project School" or "Coolidge"). The High School is located in the Takoma area of Washington DC, close to the boundary of the District of Columbia and adjoining Maryland. It is within walking distance of Takoma Metro Station and is served by bus routes along the adjoining 5th Street and surrounding area. The original school building, designed by Nathan Wyeth of the D.C. Board of Education, opened in 1940 with 750 students. The building contained 65 classrooms, an auditorium and a cafeteria to accommodate 546 people. In 1987, the adjoining activity center was opened. These are the two original structures that occupy the campus currently. The existing school structure consists of 271,300 square feet, while the program calls for 183,246 of program space.
